Iphone 10 best tips and tricks
Before we even get to number one though, I do want to add an extra which is the dark mode setting, you guys probably already know about this so i'm not going to count it. But if you didn't realize, using the dark mode setting when you're using an OLED screen iphone will significantly improve battery life. That's because the OLED screens like on the iPhone 11 Pro and the pro max (not on the iPhone 11 or one with an LCD), the OLED screen when the Pixels are black, they're just off completely. So if it's a black screen or darker screen, it uses significantly less battery than if the screen was completely white or something. And on LCD screens, this doesn't make a difference because the backlight is always on, and that's why with OLED darker actual pixels on the screen does make a difference, and can increase battery life. So it might be worth it to enable dark mode even if you don't necessarily prefer it, but you want that extra battery life, it will make a difference.
1: So starting off with number 1, you'll want to go into the settings like we will with all of these, and then go to your Apple ID at the top, then iTunes & App Store, then look under Cellular Data for the App Downloads setting. Before, iOS would not let you download any apps over 200MB over cellular, it had to be on WiFi. But now you can, and choose to either always allow app downloads no matter the file size, or only ask if it's over 200MB, or always ask. This setting will only apply if you're downloading over cellular, and they probably added the option because unlimited data plans are much more common again these days. I usually just keep it on "Ask if it's over 200MB" myself.
2:Alright up next we have a little setting in Accessibility, then Face ID & Attention, and look for the option called "Haptic on Successful Authentication" and enable that. This just makes it so when you unlock your phone with FaceID, it just gives a tiny bit of haptic feedback. I wouldn't even call it a vibration, more of like a click feeling, but you can try it and see what I mean. Anyway I just like having some physical feedback to know exactly the moment Face ID unlocks.
3:Moving on to number 3, we want to head to Control Center settings, then Customize Controls, and then click the plus icon next to "Screen Recording" to add it to the control center the next time you swipe it down. Not everyone knows that Apple actually added a native, built-in screen recorder into iOS, that basically can only be used after adding it into the control center, and then activating it from there. I won't spend too much time on it because it's pretty self explanatory, you just tap on it's icon, and it starts recording after a countdown, then you can tap to stop it. Long pressing the icon also lets you enable or disable the microphone during recording. So it's really cool feature if you didn't know about it already.
4:Ok next up number 4, this one is a couple steps but bear with me. We want to go to Accessibility, Display & Text size, and then look for the setting called "Reduce White Point". Now this isn't one you'll want to keep on all the time, but when it's enabled, depending on the percentage slider, will make the screen a lot darker, even if the screen is already on minimum brightness. So this is great if you wake up in the middle of the night and need to check your phone, when even a low screen brightness can seem blinding. Now hold on, I know what you're thinking. This toggle is deep in the settings, and wouldn't be worth it to dig through and find it just to turn it on and off. So what you can do is back in the Accessibility menu, at the bottom go to "Accessibility shortcut". This setting lets you just triple click the power button, or the home button on older iPhones, and toggle any of the selected accessibility settings, including Reduce White Point, without having to find it in the settings every time. And this whole menu is kind of a bonus because it's useful not just for this setting, but any of the ones listed you might be using, and you can select multiple at a time, in which case it pops up a selection menu when you do it, so very useful.

Now I do want to quickly add one alternative option to the reduce white point, instead you could select the "color filter" accessibility option. It can also be toggled with the accessibility shortcut with the three taps, but with this setting, instead of just darkening the screen, you can actually add color tints. You can like make it black and white as one setting, but I would recommend just going to 'color tint' and then adjusting the hue, and adjust the intensity of the tint. And this way you can kind of make an extreme version of the Night Shift mode of iphone, which allows the screen to shift more orange at night. This way, if you want to make it even stronger, you can just triple click the shortcut, and then it will be whatever you made it. So if you don't necessarily just want to darken the whole screen, you can use a color filter and still be able to reduce eye strain that way.
5:Alright number 5, still in the accessibility menu, go to Touch, and then look for the setting called "Shake to Undo". This one will be a personal preference, but I chose to disable this because I would always accidentally activate it somehow, and then this annoying pop up asking if I want to undo Typing or whatever comes up. So for example, if I'm doing a workout at home and I use a workout app, I'd just toss the phone onto the bed when I go to start a set, and literally every time it would activate this pop up. And it was weeks before I realized this setting existed and after disabling it, I had no more problems. So you might want to just disable it if you keep seeing it pop up when you don't mean too. Then you can just turn it off.
6:Alright we're half way through at number 6, this is a pretty quick one. Just go to Wallpaper, and then consider toggling on "Dark Appearance Dims Wallpaper". This simply makes it so when the phone detects very low ambient light in the room, like at night, it will dim the wallpaper. It won't affect everything, like the app icons will stay the same, it's just the wallpaper. This setting will probably make the most sense if you have a bright wallpaper, but you can try it out and see if you like it either way.
7: Number 7. For this go to Face ID & Passcode, and in here you'll see an option called "Set Up An Alternate Appearance". This is obviously just if you use Face ID, but basically allows you to scan your face a second time, kind of like how you could scan multiple fingerprints in older iPhones. You would want to do this if for whatever reason, sometimes you just look very different than usual and FaceID has trouble recognizing you in those situations. For example, maybe you work a job that requires you to wear a mask or respirator, or you're in healthcare you wear a medical mask, or who knows maybe you're a professional clown and wear a bunch of clown makeup,
8:Anyway moving on though, we're up to number 8, we got a few more. This next setting is under Notes, and then Password. This one isn't so well known, but you can actually lock specific notes you make in the Notes app, and will require the password you enter here to see and edit them. All you do in the notes app is long press on one of the notes, and then you can select to lock it. And then the next time someone tries to access it, it will require you to type in that same password. So it's pretty simple but might come in handy if you take a lot of notes and want to keep some confidential.
9:Alright now onto number 9, go to the Camera settings, and then enable the "Grid" option. This does a couple useful things. Most obvious is when you use the camera, you'll see a 3 by 3 grid, making it easier to take pictures using the rule of thirds, or just to make sure things are level for example. But another cool hidden feature is that when the Grid is enabled, when you aim the camera straight down, you'll see a a couple of crosshairs you can line up to make sure the camera is perfectly flat and level, so there's no extra distortion when you're doing that. This is really useful if you're taking a picture of a document or something, and it comes in real handy. I use it all the time.
10:Alright finally number 10, although I do have an extra bonus setting after. Anyway, go to Wi-Fi, and then look for "Ask to Join Networks", and just disable that. This makes it so your phone won't notify you about random Wi-Fi networks when you're out and about. And joining public Wi-Fi hotspots is usually a terrible idea anyway, so you almost never want to do it. But if you do want to, you can always just go into Wi-Fi settings and manually pick one yourself. And don't worry, your phone will still automatically connect to known networks you've joined before. So those are the 10 settings, and finally a fun bonus one you might not have known about under Siri & Search, and then Siri Voice. If you didn't know, here you can change Siri's voice and accent to one of several, and they added some recently, and you can decide whether the voice is male or female too. You've got a selection of like Australian, British, Irish, South African, yes even India. So it is valid in India. Amazing reference. So this might be worth it if you're tired of the usual voice. Alright there you have it, a bunch of MORE settings to change in iOS. So thanks for visiting our website , and I'll see you in the next one.
